I had my home water birth on 9/26 & it was way easier than expected. I woke up on 9/26 to surges that I didn’t bother to time. I was up all night anyway because my 5 yr old had a bad cough and I never sleep well when a child is sick (Mother’s instinct).

So water broke about 3:40 am. Called the midwife 5:30 am. Surges were intensifying through the next hours so I kept walking around and bouncing on my ball. I had my hypno-birthing CD’s playing and an oil diffuser going with lavender in it to help me relax. Midwife kept checking in on me every hour or so and said they’d arrive around 9 am and to let them know if I ever got my bloody show or loss my mucus plug (never did).

I got in the pool about 8:50 am. 9 am on the dot, I received a call from my midwife saying they were running late but on the way. Surges intensified in that minute it seems. At about 9:23 am, baby’s head popped out and at 9:24 am baby arrived in the pool.

I feel so empowered! I kept telling myself “I can do anything for 1 minute”, which helped me get through.
